Anyone who lives within the United States knows it’s packed with patriotic monuments and landmarks that reveal our country’s proud past. There are battleground sites, monuments we’ve created to honor our previous Presidents and places that mark where influential moments happened. It’s surely enough to make us want to don our patriotic merchandise, put our hand over our hearts, and sing the national anthem. Let’s look at a few of our favorite monuments across this great country.
The Statue of Liberty
The whole world knows about the Statue of Liberty. It was the very first thing immigrants saw as they traveled from Ireland and England, looking to come to the U.S. to escape oppression and famine since it was erected. It was a symbol of freedom and let everyone know that they had made it. It was dedicated to our country from France in 1886 and made into a national monument in 1924. Since then, its bright torch has been lit and is a beacon of hope for many!
Freedom Trail
If you love the Revolutionary War time period, then Boston is one of several cities you should visit for landmarks and monuments. In particular, Boston has what’s called the Freedom Trail. There are over 16 different significant and historic places to see, like Paul Revere’s house, Park Street Church, Boston Common, and many others. It’s these places that helped shape our country into the beacon of freedom it is today!
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Any veteran memorial across our great land is a stark reminder of the ultimate cost of freedom. The same is true for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. There are over 58,000 names carved on the memorial itself, giving the ultimate honor to those who perished in the war. You can visit anytime you wish, as it’s always open and is free to the public.
Independence National Park
Like Boston, Philadelphia, PA has its share of monuments and landmarks. One of those is the Independence National Historical Park. Here you’ll find a vast array of powerful symbols of the fight for our independence, like the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin Museum, and Independence Hall. You won’t want to miss any of the amazing places to visit if you’re in Philly, especially Independence National Historical Park.
Mount Rushmore
Found in Keystone, South Dakota, Mt. Rushmore is perhaps one of the most famous landmarks in the country. At this spot, you can find four of our country’s most popular presidents carved into the mountainside: Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt. You won’t want to miss this spectacular sight!
