Officer Lyday was answering a domestic abuse call in the 300 block of Jackson Avenue after a woman called 911 to report that her husband was threatening to kill her.

John Benedict Coleman, 53, reportedly confronted the officers on the home's porch, before returning back into the home and firing at officers through the closed door. Officer Lyday was hit by gunfire.

He was transported to McKay-Dee Hospital and doctors at the emergency room at pronounced him dead. Officer Lyday had only been on the job for 15 months

Officer Lyday is survived by his wife of 5 years.

  • Please include a note as to why the item is being returned along with your order number and name so we can process the refund quickly.
  • Refunds will take 2-3 business days to process through back to your bank. Once a refund is processed you will receive an email notification.
